A Celebration of Delaware History
The Delaware Heritage Commission offers two different grants meant for individuals and groups studying the history and heritage of Delaware. Grant applications are accepted at any time. They are then considered by the Purnell Challenge Grant or McKinstry Award Committee. The Committee then makes a recommendation to the Commission at an Executive Committee or Regular Commission meeting. The Executive Committee meets the first Wednesday of even-numbered months (Feb., April, June, Aug., Oct., Dec.). The Regular Commission meetings are held the first Wednesday of odd numbered months (Jan, March, May, July, Sept., Nov.).
Recently Purnell Challenge Grants have been awarded to the Milford Museum, Hagley Museum and Library, and the Lewes Historical Society
Recent McKinstry Award scholars are Wade Catts of Newark, Kathleen Buckalew of Wilmington, and Stephanie Holyfield of Hockessin
Purnell Challenge Grants are meant for groups and are matching grants.
Typically, Purnell Challenge Grants range from $250 – $1,500
